Introduction

Express Rail Link (Hong Kong Section)

On 20 October 2009, the Chief Executive in Council authorized the scheme of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (the Express Rail Link) that was gazetted on 28 November 2008 with amendment gazetted on 30 April 2009.

On 16 January 2010, the Finance Committee of Legco approved the funding arrangement of the construction of the Express Rail Link. The construction work for the Express Rail Link has been scheduled to commence in January 2010 for completion in 2015. To proceed with the project further, the MTR Corporation has been entrusted with the planning and construction of the Express Rail Link.

The Express Rail Link will provide frequent services from a new terminus at West Kowloon in Hong Kong to Shibi in Guangzhou, via Futian and Longhua in Shenzhen and Humen in Dongguan. The link will also connect to the national express rail network which will provide long haul services to other major cities in the Mainland.
