Caring for the Environment

As a company that cares the environment, the Corporation ensures the design, construction and operation of the West Island Line (WIL) are complying with all relevant statutory requirements on environmental protection.

The Corporation takes every possible measure to minimize the impact of the works to the public and ensure all environmental impacts which may arise from the works are kept within acceptable standards.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the West Island Line was approved by Environmental Protection Department in December 2008 and the Environmental Permit was issued to the Corporation in January 2009.

Preservation of tree walls along Forbes Street Playground and King George V Memorial Park, Hong Kong are important parts of the EIA study. To preserve the precious tree wall along Forbes Street Playground, the Kennedy Town station is relocated beneath Forbes Street Playground and Kennedy Town Swimming Pool.
