As Hong Kong's only licensed rail operator, we are responsible for the building and operating of future rail projects in Hong Kong. In 2007, a further four new rail projects were announced by Government as part of the accelerated city-wide infrastructure planning. These projects will progressively add a further 60 kilometres of rail line to our local network over the next decade, making this phase of construction the largest MTR Corporation has seen in its 28-year history.

With this new era of building, delivering on our social, economic and environmental commitments is a core to our growth strategy. We are systematically enhancing current practices and processes by adopting PAS55-1 certification for rail asset life-cycle management and HK-BEAM specifications for new property developments. In supply chain management, the green procurement strategy is in progress. More recently, the commitment to resource efficiencies under our Corporate Climate Change Policy and the early inclusion of the community's voice in new projects will posed greater influence on how we steward the organisation to be a sustainable and enduring community asset
