By design, we actively compare our progress on the social and environmental front with international peer groups. Participation in benchmarking and membership to industry bodies guides us in understanding performance trends, how we rate as an organisation globally and what targets to set internally that are relevant to our internal performance improvement.
At the industry level, MTR currently chairs the UITP Sustainability Committee. Under our stewardship for the past three years, the Committee has introduced a global Climate Change Policy and is in progress to produce a series of KPIs for the industry. We are in our 13th year of participating in the annual CoMET benchmarking exercise, which ranks our safety, efficiency and services delivery amongst 11 leading Metros worldwide. Our rankings sit consistently amongst the best performers, demonstrating our leadership and work ethic for continual improvement.
We subscribe to the GHG Protocol for Project Accounting under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and World Resources Institute (WRI). By establishing this methodology, we give interested readers a comparable set of metrics that measure our environmental impacts against global peers. Used over the past 5 years it clearly maps our internal progress and identifies the shortfalls in management while tracking the sources and quantity of our emissions.
