Internationalising Value

Our core competencies in mass transit rail development and management give rise to a growing consulting business to rail operators worldwide. In managing the lifecycle effects of rail projects, the Corporation, through consulting, keeps our reservoir of talent engaged and learning while leveraging our reputation in new markets and delivering to business partners a quality project that exceeds expectations.

In undertaking projects that range from rail management training to building high-speed rail infrastructure, we deploy manpower from across all divisions to create the appropriate MTR team. We train staff prior to posting on how to shift job attitude from employee to consultant, thrive with the cultural challenges of working in foreign environments and, most importantly, translate the MTR quality brand and standards of services to overseas markets. More than 180 employees were engaged in more than 30 consultancies during 2006, the fourth year of continual growth for this business.

When co-operating with business partners and clients, expectations of the MTR business model and reputation drive our consulting strategy. In delivering to such expectations, we seek to control the contract from the outset, leveraging the opportunity to embed the tenets of sustainability within the context of local ability and compliance, while establishing our client's long-term local ability to achieve and maintain world-class operating standards after our work is completed.

As of 2006, our consulting business extended from mainland China, Taiwan and South Korea through to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, India and Australia and, recently, to Dubai in the Middle East.
