The issuance of the Corporate Safety Policy and establishment of the Corporate Safety Committee in May 2006 consolidate the management of all health and safety issues under a formalised governance framework. The Corporate Safety Committee is supported by the existing Operations Safety Committee and three newly established business-specific committees for the mainland China and international markets growth, property and, rail projects construction. The Committee oversees policy changes, establishes the procedures that enhance the existing health and safety systems, and implements any new standards specific to growing business needs. This leads to the seamless transfer of consistent management in health and safety issues to the front-line of all business activities.

Safety management specific to staff, passengers and customers and contractors functions under various programmes under the Integrated Management System (IMS) and through other division-specific procedures. Our 2006 performance generally exceeded targets in all categories save a slight increase in lost time for staff due to injury and one fatality from a contractor on the Ngong Ping 360 site.
